Since
leaving school I have followed a career in retail. I started out
as a sales assistant in London before progressing to being a shop
manager in Manchester. However, in 1999 I decided
to return to University and study broadcasting, which was always
my first love. I graduated with First Class Honours in July 2002
having stayed on with my old employer (Superfi) throughout as
their webmaster - it allowed me to work from home and make the
hours fit around the University commitments. Since then I worked
for a short time as a Producer for Channel M's "Gloves Off"
and now work as a freelance web designer and video producer. I
also carry out audio/video installation work on a job-by-job basis.
I enjoy
the work I do, especially as I often get to work from home - which
suits me as I am a total home boy - not in the hip-hop sense of
the word but rather in the sense that I like my flat and the familiar
and secure environment it provides, within which I can insulate
myself when working or relaxing.
I live
in Salford which hugs the western border of Manchester
in the North West (I moved here from London in 1997).
People make out that it's a terrible place to live,
but it isn't as bad as the publicity.
When I go out, it may be to shop or eat out (usually
Chinese) and I do occasionally go out to Manchester's
"Gay Village". I disagree with those that
say the people there are shallow, however the choice
of entertainment is limited and everything is confined
into a small ghetto. Every venue is smoky and the
music is usually pap - as a non-smoking, non-drinking
lad who doesn't enjoy the music played by 99% of
pubs and clubs, there are few which cater for me.
I guess you could describe me as a part time anything-that-comes-my-way.
I guess there is still a lack of focus there and
I would like to move on to regular work soon.
